Millions of SASSA Beneficiaries Successfully Paid with Increased Grants from April 2025
This April 2025, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) implemented increased payments across all permanent social grants, providing much-needed relief to millions of beneficiaries. These adjustments, announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the 2025 Budget Speech, aim to support vulnerable citizens dependent on SASSA grants amid rising living costs.
Millions of SASSA Beneficiaries Successfully Paid with Increased Grants from April 2025
From April 2025, SASSA’s social grants with increased payments have been successfully received by millions of South Africans. The social grant adjustments, officially announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the Budget Speech earlier this year, ease financial pressures on vulnerable groups facing the country’s economic challenges.
Older persons, people living with disabilities, children, and caregivers were among the recipients who welcomed the new grant amounts. Despite Postbank troubles push 2 million SASSA beneficiaries to new banks, April 2025 payments were made on time.
During the early days of April, with older persons receiving their grants on Wednesday, 2 April 2025, disability grants paid on Thursday, 3 April 2025, and child support and related grants finalized on Friday, 4 April 2025.

Government Extended SASSA Support for Vulnerable South Africans
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that SASSA grant assistance continues to reach those who need it most, with President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Department of Social Development emphasizing the importance of sustaining and strengthening the social grant system into 2026. Meanwhile, an increase to the SRD grant is under consideration as the South African High Court challenges the Treasury over the R370 SASSA grant eligibility criteria.
Beneficiaries who received their grants this April expressed relief and gratitude, noting that even modest increases will go a long way toward covering everyday essentials. SASSA has encouraged all beneficiaries to check SASSA payment dates regularly to avoid any delays or confusion.
The increased grants come at a crucial time, reinforcing the role of social security in preserving dignity and improving living standards for millions of citizens across the country. As South Africa faces continued economic challenges, the government’s focus on social assistance remains essential in supporting those most in need.
