How to apply for a SASSA grant online
SASSA social grants — old age, disability, child support, foster child, care dependency and the SRD grant — can be applied for online through the SASSA services portal. You register an account, complete the application for the relevant grant, and upload the documents SASSA asks for.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Register | Create an account at services.sassa.gov.za with your citizenship status, South African ID or file number (this becomes your user name), contact details and a password, then verify with the one-time PIN sent to your phone |
| Start | Log in, open the ‘Apply for Social Grants’ service and choose the grant you are applying for |
| Documents | Your ID copy, spouse ID and proof of marital status if applicable, proof of income and residence, and bank confirmation |
| Affidavit | Complete the SASSA-generated application affidavit and have it certified (for example by a commissioner of oaths, social worker or school principal) |
| Payment method | Provide your bank details (bank, branch code, account number, account type) or choose another approved payment option |
| Submit | Upload the documents in PDF format, review the information, accept the terms and submit |
| Outcome | SASSA notifies you by SMS; processing time can vary |
The specific documents you submit depend on the grant. The SRD R370 grant is applied for separately through the official SRD portal, where applicants provide their information electronically and do not upload the documents described here. The specific documents you submit for a social grant depend on the grant type.
