SASSA Appeal

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) allows beneficiaries to successfully appeal for declined SRD grant and social grant applications. You have the right to lodge an appeal within 90 days of receiving the rejection notice to get your grant reinstated for benefits.

You can submit a SASSA Appeal for review directly to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) at the Department of Social Development (DSD). The ITSAA is assembled to make final decisions based on your specific circumstances. After submitting your appeal application, you can track your SASSA appeal status to stay updated on progress and outcomes.

Document Requirements for Appeal Application

You need to submit the required supporting documents to complete your social grant and SRD appeal to prove your eligibility.

  • Personal details: Name and Surname
  • ID card number
  • Nationality
  • Cell phone number
  • Physical Address
  • Postal Address
  • Details of Grant Application: Date of Application and Type of SASSA Grant
  • Reasons for Appealing: Include information about your medical condition, poverty, or unemployment situation.

SASSA Appeal Process

After completing the process, you can expect to receive a confirmation message indicating that you have successfully submitted your appeal application.

Your appeal is reviewed by appointed members of the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). They act on behalf of the Republic of South Africa government, and process your SASSA appeal for a declined SRD R350 grant application and social grant, making decisions accordingly.

Processing Time for SRD Appeal Outcome

Every SASSA appeal application goes through a processing period where your appeal is checked against SASSA requirements for the requested social grant. The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) will notify you electronically of the outcome within 60 to 90 days of lodging the appeal. Your Sassa grant will be reinstated for monthly payments if your circumstances match the requirements. This online appeal process has been instrumental in securing approvals for previously declined grants and has aided countless applicants in recent years.

Reasons for Appealing a Declined Grant

  1. Exceeding income limits set by the SASSA Means Test for the requested grant.
  2. Submission of inaccurate details in your application, personal information, supporting documents, and proof of residence.

  4. ID or phone number registered for multiple grant applications, violating SASSA regulations.
  5. Incomplete application with missing medical reports, affidavit form, or other necessary documentation.

To address the declined application and potentially have your grant reinstated by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), follow these steps.
