The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has started accepting new applications for the July 2025 social grants, including the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, commonly referred to as the R350 grant. You can apply now by completing the SASSA July 2025 grant application if you meet the eligibility criteria and require financial assistance through SASSA grant programmes such as the Old Age Grant, Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, and the SRD R350 Grant.

To support millions of vulnerable individuals in South Africa, including citizens, permanent residents, and asylum seekers, SASSA grants aim at help those in financial distress meet their basic living needs. These grants are government-funded and monitored by the Department of Social Development (DSD), which also manages the appeals process.

To qualify for July 2025 SASSA grant, applicants must meet the specific eligibility criteria of each programme:

  • SRD R370 Grant (commonly known as the R350 grant) requires an applicant to be 18 years or older, unemployed, and have less than R624 in their bank account.
  • Old Age Grant is a monthly pension for older persons aged 60 and above.
  • Disability Grant requires a valid medical assessment confirming a physical or mental disability.
  • Child Support Grant requires a birth certificate, an affidavit for dependents, or court-ordered foster care documentation.

If you meet the eligibility criteria for the SRD Grant, you can complete your SASSA R350 application online. To apply for social grants, you can visit the SASSA online application portal and submit your form without needing to visit a local office.

To complete your application for July 2025, ensure you have your South African ID number, cellphone number, and proof of income or a declaration of no income for the means test. Before your application submission, you must select your preferred payment method to avoid any delays.

SASSA allows grant payments via direct deposit to your bank account or through a Postbank Black Card or Gold card, which can be used at ATMs and partnered retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Usave, and Boxer for monthly payouts.

Important Update for Applicants

SASSA only accepts supporting documents in PDF format for the required affidavit, the child’s birth certificate, and documents confirming your marital status.

If you do not have a South African ID card, SASSA allows alternative forms of identification for application submission. However, biometric ID verification is mandatory for all new applicants and existing beneficiaries once approved for the July 2025 payments.

After submitting your SASSA application for SRD R370 or any other social grant, you can track its status online. You can visit the SASSA status checker at srd.sassa.gov.za to see if your July 2025 grant application is approved, pending, or declined.

If your application is declined for July 2025, you can lodge an appeal within 90 days by visiting srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.

After submitting your appeal for July 2025, you can track its status online on the SASSA website. As your appeal is successful in the DSD review, your SASSA grant will be approved for the next payment cycle and paid in the August 2025 payment schedule.
