SASSA Pays Increased Old Age Grant from 2 September 2025

SASSA pays increased Old Age Grant from 2 September 2025. This adjustment, announced as part of the government’s annual above-inflation grant updates, helps elderly South Africans cope with the rising cost of living with continued support.

From September, older persons between the ages of 60 and 74 will now receive R2,310, up from the previous R2,190. This reflects an increase of R120 for the older persons grant for September 2025.

Beneficiaries 75 years and older will also see their monthly grant increased by R120, raising from R2,210 to R2,330. These increases bring much-needed relief for millions of pensioners who rely on their SASSA grants as their primary source of income in old age.

Beneficiaries who qualify for the additional Grant-in-Aid (GiA), SASSA has raised the Grant-in-Aid from R530 to R560, marking a R30 increase. This grant supports individuals needing full-time care, easing the burden on families caring for frail or severely disabled recipients.

The September 2025 old age grant increase reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the value of SASSA social grants against inflation and reducing household financial strain.

In many families, elderly members use their pensions to cover their basic needs while also supporting children and grandchildren, underscoring the role of SASSA grants as a vital lifeline for millions of households in South Africa.
