To relieve millions of beneficiaries, Postbank has confirmed that gold cards still valid for SASSA grant payments in June 2025. Recently, SASSA and Postbank set a deadline of 31 May 2025 to begin phasing out the older gold cards in favour of the new black card system. This caused concern among many grant recipients who feared their gold cards would stop working. However, SASSA has now clarified that Postbank gold cards can still be used for June 2025 payments and will remain active until further notice.

Gold Cards Still Valid for SASSA Grant Payments in June 2025

The original expiry date for SASSA gold cards was 31 December 2023, but their validity has been extended several times. Most recently, Postbank confirmed that gold cards will remain valid beyond 31 May 2025, indicating beneficiaries can continue using them for June 2025 grant payments without any disruption. This update was announced by Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe and supported by SASSA representatives.

This extension brings relief to millions of SASSA beneficiaries, including those receiving the Old Age Grant, Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, and the Social Relief of Distress Grant, as they can still access their funds through ATMs and retail point-of-sale (POS) devices across South Africa for June 2025 payout.

Important: If your card is lost or you suspect fraud, contact the SASSA toll-free number at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest Post Office or SASSA branch. You can request a replacement card and automatically promoted to the new Postbank black card.
