SASSA Gold Card Remains Functional Beyond 31 May 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that the SASSA Gold Card will stay valid past the original deadline of 31 May 2025. This decision ensures that SASSA payments continue smoothly for millions of beneficiaries amid an ongoing dispute with Postbank.

SASSA Gold Card Remains Functional Beyond 31 May 2025

Originally, SASSA planned to phase out the Gold Card by 31 May 2025, replacing it with the Postbank Black Card. However, a contractual issue with Postbank has delayed this transition and now unannounced suspension, prompting SASSA to extend the Gold Card’s use indefinitely. This move protects the 19 million beneficiaries relying on grant payments for Old Age Grants and Child Support Grants.

Beneficiaries can still use their SASSA Gold Cards without interruption. Meanwhile, SASSA recommends switching to other bank accounts amid Postbank black card suspension for better security and timely payments. To make the switch, visit a local SASSA office with your ID and bank details, or update your information via change banking details process through the SASSA online portal.

This re-evaluation of Gold Cards offers temporary relief, but staying informed is essential, as the ongoing Postbank dispute with SASSA is affecting millions and causing many accounts to be frozen.
