SASSA September 2025 SRD Grant Payment: Update Your Banking Details to Avoid Delays
Millions of South Africans prefer bank payments over Postbank cards, as it is easier to receive SASSA grant money without waiting in long queues at the Post Office or Postbank ATMs. If you move to bank payments, you must update your banking details to avoid any delays with the SASSA September 2025 SRD grant payments. Processing starts from Tuesday, 9 September 2025, and continues until 30 September 2025.
SASSA September 2025 SRD Grant Payment: Update Your Banking Details to Avoid Delays
With the closure of many rural cash pay points, millions of SASSA beneficiaries have found it difficult to access Postbank ATMs and have missed valuable grant payments. The transition from Gold Cards to Postbank black cards suspensions has added to these challenges, with long-distance travel required to reach card replacement sites. This has placed an undue burden on older persons, people with disabilities, and caregivers of young children.
To address these challenges, SASSA has confirmed that beneficiaries can choose their preferred bank to receive monthly grant payments, reducing dependence on Postbank and avoiding long queues at limited pay points. Beneficiaries now have multiple methods of payment (MOP), which SASSA continues to promote through its Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) events to raise awareness among millions of recipients.
SASSA can deposit grant funds directly into a beneficiary’s personal bank account, or payments can be accessed using the Postbank Black Card at ATMs and participating retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Spar. The availability of these payment points may differ depending on location.
Of all the available grant payment methods, SASSA recommends using your active personal bank account as the safest and most reliable way to receive your grant money.
To use your bank account for SASSA grant payments, you need to update your banking details online following these steps.
Go to the SASSA portal to update or change your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za.
Select the service tab “How do I change my banking details?”
Enter your registered South African ID number and the phone number used for your application.
You will receive a secure SMS link to update your banking details.
Fill in the required fields, including bank name, account type, branch code, and account number.
Submit the form to ensure SASSA updates your banking details for the September 2025 grant payment.
Once your banking details have been successfully updated in SASSA’s system, your SRD grant will be deposited into your new bank account for September 2025 and all future months. Remember, specific banks cost fees for SASSA grants.
Approved SRD payments for September will be paid from 24 September 2025 and 30 September 2025. SASSA has advised beneficiaries to check SRD Status on the official website to confirm the exact pay date when the payment will reflect in the linked bank account.
Notice: If you have more than one active bank account, you must update your banking information with SASSA to avoid payment delays. Beneficiaries are advised never to share their PINs or verification codes received on their registered cell phone number. These are confidential and should only be used by the grant holder to protect against fraud or unauthorised access to your grant.
Important Reminder for Beneficiaries
SASSA has warned that any mismatch in banking details, particularly when the bank account is not registered in the beneficiary’s own name, may lead to delayed payments or a declined grant. Beneficiaries are reminded to ensure their banking information is correct and up to date on the official SASSA portal srd.sassa.gov.za.
For September 2025, SASSA has started SRD R370 biometric verification on flagged accounts. This reviewing process confirms updated personal details and verifies that beneficiaries still meet the eligibility criteria for receiving SASSA assistance.
Beneficiaries can check their SRD status for September 2025 to confirm approval for the R370 grant. Approved SRD payments will be processed by SASSA and take up to two business days from payment dates to reflect in bank accounts, so beneficiaries should verify with their bank once payments have been released.
