SRD Grant Delays Payment Disruptions Begin 25 April 2025 Amid System Glitches
Millions of South Africans relying on the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are facing unexpected uncertainty, as payments scheduled to begin from 25 April 2025 are disrupted due to widespread technical issues. With thousands of complaints already emerging, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is under pressure to resolve the glitches affecting this critical lifeline.
SRD Grant Delays Payment Disruptions Begin 25 April 2025 Amid System Glitches
Millions of SRD grant beneficiaries face system glitches. This situation affects vulnerable communities. Many beneficiaries who were expecting their SRD grant this week from 24 April 2025 are seeing their SRD status stuck on “pending,” while others report that their application status has suddenly changed from “approved” to “declined” without explanation. Some recipients remain approved but have not received funds due to unresolved banking verification issues.
SASSA has confirmed the delays, pointing to system upgrades and data verification backlogs as the root causes that are impacting the April 2025 grant cycle. “We are aware of the disruption and sincerely apologise,” said SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi. “Postbank black card glitches delay SASSA April payments and technical teams are working around the clock to stabilise the system and ensure that payments are processed as quickly as possible.”
Beneficiaries are strongly encouraged to check their SASSA status for SRD R370 grant regularly via the official SRD portal. Ensure their banking details are verified to avoid further delays. Outdated or incorrect bank information remains one of the leading reasons for payment delays, even when the application is approved.
SRD Payment Delays Come Amid Rising Living Costs
This disruption comes at a time when many households are already under pressure from SASSA Gold card deadline, rising food, transport, and electricity costs. For millions of unemployed South Africans, the SRD grant is the only form of monthly support, making timely distribution a matter of survival.
Advocacy groups and analysts warn that continued disruptions risk damaging public confidence in the grant system. With 8.5 million people depending on the SRD grant monthly, and 62% of SRD grant applicants under 35 amid job crisis, Civil Society leaders are calling for greater transparency and more frequent communication from SASSA.
SASSA’s Commitment: Support Will Be Delivered
While no fixed recovery date has been announced, SASSA has urged recipients not to panic and assured that payments will resume once system stability is restored. The agency is working to resolve the issues and has pledged to keep the public informed. For now, beneficiaries are advised to remain alert, check their SRD applications, and grant status, be prepared for further updates from SASSA as it works to stabilise its payment infrastructure.
