SRD R370 Biometric Verification Now Mandatory for September 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that biometric verification is now compulsory for all applicants and beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant for September 2025 payments. This is for beneficiaries who have recently been notified of a SASSA review due to a change in income details and other qualifying circumstances. To receive payment, affected people must complete fingerprint verification at a SASSA office before the September SRD grant disbursements are processed.

SRD R370 Biometric Verification Now Mandatory for September 2025

SASSA’s recent audits uncovered millions of duplicate and fraudulent grant claims. To address this, the agency has announced the biometric enrolment on 01 September 2025 for social grants. Since the social grant schedule ended, the approach has been extended, and SRD R370 biometric verification now mandatory for September 2025 payments. Those beneficiaries’ accounts requested for a review will not receive their September SRD grant payment until fingerprint verification is completed at a SASSA office or local Community Outreach event ICROP.

The biometric verification technology is designed to strengthen fraud prevention and ensure that Social Relief of Distress SRD grant reach only the rightful applicants. This requirement applies to both new applicants and existing beneficiaries, who must complete identity verification to confirm eligibility before the September SRD R370 grant disbursements are released.

SRD grant beneficiaries are now being reviewed by SASSA to ensure that their personal details remain up to date and that they continue to meet the eligibility requirements of the social relief grant. The review process also checks for any changes in circumstances, including income, assets, or employment status.

To make this process more accessible, SASSA is rolling out services through its Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP). These outreach initiatives were sent to all provinces, including the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the Eastern Cape, bringing SASSA services closer to rural communities that face challenges in reaching physical offices or using online platforms.

SASSA ICROP events are held in local community halls, allowing beneficiaries to access these services closer to where they live.

Through this initiative, SASSA fraud-prevention measures while also improving access to grant services for rural and vulnerable communities across South Africa.
