Follow the process to request updating your SASSA phone number from an old contact to a new one, ensuring you continue to receive your grant notifications and verifications.

  1. To update SASSA contact details go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact/
  2. Click on the Change Contact link to verify your identity as the original applicant.
  3. Provide your identity proof by providing.
    • Your 13-digit South African identity number.
    • Your 6-digit Application ID (AppID) received by SASSA during your Sassa Online Application or Reapplication.
  4. Input the required details and click the Submit button to authenticate your identity in the SASSA database.
  5. After successful verification, proceed to the ‘Change Phone Number’ service to update your contact information.
  6. Enter your new cell phone number and click the Send PIN button to receive a SASSA OTP Code.
  7. Insert the one-time PIN (OTP) you receive and click Verify PIN to confirm updating contact details in the SASSA system.

You can now expect to receive a confirmation of your cellphone number change request from SASSA via SMS and email. This happens when the Sassa verification is complete, and your new contact number is linked to your grant for payment processing.

Important: SASSA applicants only submit one request within 24 hours to change SRD phone number for SASSA contact details.

How Long It Takes for Sassa to Update New Phone Number

SASSA takes about two weeks (14 business days) to change your phone number and send you an SMS confirming your new phone is successfully processed and linked with your grant payments. The updated contact details will be used for your social grant payments in the forthcoming month.

Report Unauthorised Cell Phone Number Change

Given the increasing incidents of fraudulent activities, SASSA strongly urges you to report unauthorized cell phone number changes, which often occur due to theft or loss of the phone. SASSA advises beneficiaries who fall victim to fraud, lost phone number or unauthorized changes, needs to report at SASSA helpline following this process.

  1. Go to the SASSA Status check web portal. https://sassas.co.za
  2. If the SASSA status results display ‘record not found,’ immediately dial the SASSA helpline number at 0800 601 011 to block your payments. (It means someone else has changed your phone number for Sassa grant.)
  3. File a police report for the stolen phone/SIM card or unauthorised cell phone changes.
  4. Contact SASSA to report the issue directly to Social Security agency link for reporting: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/auth
  5. Open the provided link and verify your ID number to be recognized as the original applicant.
  6. By submitting your ID number, you confirm that your cell phone number used for the SASSA online application for social grant and SRD R350 grant was changed without your consent.
  7. Confirm your choice with a (Yes) or (No) and Submit.
  8. Receive a notification stating: Successfully submitted unauthorized cell phone number change report to SASSA.

Note: Submitting your ID number will confirmed that your cellphone number used for the SASSA R350 application (SRD R370) or any other Social Grant was changed without your consent.

Importance of SASSA Beneficiaries Phone Number

SASSA requires your South African ID and phone number to register as an official beneficiary for selected SASSA grant programs. This information ensures the proper distribution of funds and prevents unauthorized access to grant funds.
